A Few More Photos From Florida

I had a few more pictures I wanted to share from our trip...
First, this is the view of our beach taken from the water...

I wanted to put in another picture of my alligator... This one shows you how big it was with Alex sleeping in the background for scale... It also looks like my alligator is sneaking up on him for a quick bite... ;)

We really don't know if this jellyfish was alive when it washed up onto the beach (I honestly don't know how one would look dead vs. alive), but it was the first time I'd seen a jellyfish not in a zoo... So here's a pic...

A family photo back in Tallahassee... From left to right, Janice, Jeremy (Rachel's brother and sister-in-law), Lucas, Rachel, Me, Deb, and Alex (Rach's parents)... I bought a new tripod for the trip, and this was the first time I really used it (after we had returned from St. George Island)...

And finally, this is just something I put together with Photoshop. I've been trying to figure out that program, and it's what I used to put those panoramic photos together... It's not as easy as I thought it would be...

Not so fast...

As I was posting about Lucas starting to crawl... He thought he'd try another first today... As you'll see, he got a little ahead of himself...

Crawling!!!!

Someone decided to finally start crawling today!! He's been getting up on all fours for quite some time, but has yet to crawl... He usually just bottoms out to his belly or pushes back into the sitting position. Last night Rach and I saw him bring one knee up, but then he just bellies out...

Today, he started again, so I got out the camera... I captured it in both photo and video, so enjoy!!!

And the videos...

Playing at the park

There was a small park on the island. It was cloudy when we first arrived, then the sun came out and it was HOT!! We stayed for about 10 minutes, then we had to find some shade!

Last Day at the Beach

Here are some pictures from our last day at the beach. It was a little cloudy in the morning, so Lucas enjoyed playing on the blanket and watching others swim. He never did warm up to the ocean water. I think the water was just too cold for the little guy. I can't blame him, I only went in up to my waist! We had a great time anyway!

Waching the waves roll in

One more try.......

Catch of the day!

First Time On The Beach

Well, we made it to our beach house on beautiful St. George Island, Florida...

Here is our view from the front of our house toward the Gulf...

We got here yesterday afternoon and wasted no time getting onto the beach... This is obviously Lucas's first experience with the beach and/or waves... Our expectation was that he'd love playing in the water because he just goes crazy in his baths... We got him all suited up and lathered in sunblock and took him to the water... Here is his initial reaction...

It's been very windy since we got here, so the waves have been very big and loud... Our guess is that the loud waves and the cooler water temperature were just too much for our sensitive boy... He cheered up later and had fun on the beach...

First Entry

Well, we've finally entered the blogging community!!!!

I used to think I was pretty savvy when it came to computers, the internet, and technology in general… Unfortunately, after writing out this initial post TWICE already (this being the third) and somehow deleting the entire thing accidentally, my perception has changed… Anyways, here goes attempt #3.

We decided to get involved in blogging so we could keep all our loved ones up to date on our family (especially the ever-growing Lucas Richard Faust!!). With the multitude of friends and family that we are unable to see nearly as often as we’d like, something like this blog has become more and more necessary. Just so I don’t have to post 8 months of photos and videos of Lucas’s life up till now, I’ll direct you to a site (http://www.lucasrichardfaust.shutterfly.com/) to which we’ve been posting since he was born. That way, we’ll just have to keep this one site current with updates, and you all can enjoy pictures and videos of our little fella as he keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Okay, so on to the updates... Since my graduation earlier in May, I learned that after you earn a doctoral degree, all that gets you initially is that you get to be named Dr. Mom instead of just Mr. Mom... See, when Rach's maternity leave ended around Thanksgiving, she went back to work part-time, which meant Lucas had to go into daycare for 3 days per week. Well, since I graduated, she's gone back to work full-time and I get to watch Lucas full-time (since I can't actually work until I get my license in a couple months AND daycare is friggin expensive). The first couple days weren't quite as smooth as they are now, but overall things have gone well. We've worked out a good routine that keeps me sane and keeps Lucas fed, happy, and in a clean diaper... I'm actually really enjoying this time with him because once I get my license, I'm going to be working pretty much all the time...

I’ll have Rach post later to give you a better idea of Lucas’s abilities and the benchmarks he’s met so far… Hopefully that doesn’t make me sound like some deadbeat Dad who doesn’t know what his son can do… The truth is, though, that Rach is just better at knowing what Lucas should be able to do at his age… I can say, though, that he seems to be right on the verge of crawling now… He can easily get up on all fours, but he hasn’t quite taken the plunge into full-fledged crawling just yet…

Lucas has also become a lot more verbal in the last few months… In fact, one morning back in March, I could have sworn I heard him make the “Da” syllable when I was picking him up out of his crib. I thought it was just a fluke, but he actually kept doing it the rest of that day and since… These videos are from later that day…

Currently, we’re all sitting in Rach’s brother and sister-in-law’s house in Tallahassee, Florida. We drove down from Indiana yesterday (Saturday) with Rach’s parents and Pacey (our puppy for those who don’t know) and will be here in Florida through the rest of the week. Actually, we’re all headed to St. George Island (http://www.stgeorgeisland.net/) on Tuesday to stay in a beach house we’re renting through Friday. For Rach and I, it’s our first vacation since our honeymoon… For Lucas, it’s the longest car trip he’s taken since we drove to Iowa to visit with his uncle, aunt, and cousin (Jim, Reagan, and Riley) (http://mnboilermakers.blogspot.com/).

We’ll definitely have more pictures to post by the end of the week… For now, I’ll just post some recent photos along with a few older ones... Enjoy!!
